Please remember to add the name of the rower you are sponsoring in the check out - thank you!!
My 2014-2015 rowing season has just begun at Saratoga Rowing. This year is looking to be a very exciting one. As reining national champions in the girls varsity eight, girls 2nd varsity eight, girls freshmen eight, and boys freshmen quad, we have a lot of work to do in order to meet that level of success! Along with the on water success, SRA is in the process of expanding to meet the growing needs of the organization. With 180 junior competitive kids on the team and 12 adaptive rowers we are undertaking a much needed expansion of our training facilities and our fleet of shells.
I am hoping that you will sponsor me in this 20 mile row-a-thon fundraiser in order to meet these needs.
While the club is proud of its accomplishments on the water, our real success lies in the impact on the lives of the many families involved… Two stories follow:
Parents of middle school rowers are often nervous about our annual training trip to Orlando for the younger rowers. For many it is the first time they will be away from home for an extended period of time. For one family, the daughter had never been away from home for more than a night, and always wanted to come home during sleepovers. The Dad was recently relaying the story to new parents about how the trip changed his daughter. After that middle school trip the daughter had a new sense of independence and confidence. She was able to go to sleep overs with her friends and not call for a late night pick-up.
Recently the Dad of one of the families on the team was between jobs and had been out of work for a while. The family was concerned about the impending costs of college for their senior daughter. Thanks to lots of hard work and some fast racing, the daughter was able to earn a full scholarship to college significantly changing the financial situation for that family for up to 2 generations.
While we love to be competitive and successful, far more is learned being part of SRA than just how to make a skinny boat go fast. With your help, SRA will continue to fulfill its mission: To strengthen our community by promoting the sport and culture of rowing, foster excellence and integrity in athletes of all abilities and grow Saratoga as a premier rowing destination.
P.S. We are committed to never turning away athletes for lack of financial means. If you can afford to help a less fortunate child participate, we ask you to consider giving a little bit extra directly to our Rowers Assistance Program.
(As we are a 501-c3 Tax Exempt Organization, your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law)
Cut on line and place in enclosed envelope addressed to SRA with your check made out to Saratoga Rowing Association.
